The Photographer

Jack Metthey:  from senior European technocrat to in-from-the-storm photographer and visual storyteller creating portrait, fashion and travel imagery across the world

Jack’s main professional life was as a high level technocrat before he switched to photography :  “After a number of years devoted to an exciting career as senior official in European affairs (Europe is a historical project, but that’s another story), the time came to embark on a more personal adventure“

And why picking photography?  “Easy:  I always loved it!“

Some solid training with great photographers helped to build the technical skill and confidence.  “I’m really grateful to them, they opened my eyes and they were quite patient!“

And why this kind of photography?  “Well, for DNA reasons to a large extent.  My mother was a model and then stylist-designer in a top “Haute Couture” house in Paris. Imagine her dragging her young son in the fitting room with all these tall beautiful models half-dressed (if at all!).  For a former technocrat, there’s a bit of provocation and risk-taking in this choice, but in this family context this is totally appropriate.“

For the rest “it’s all about creating cool images and stories – visual storytelling – with lots of light, an addiction to colour and a pinch of human emotion.  “Elegance at a glance” is the slogan!”
